Using Sculpey Colour Tints with Premo White, Translucent, and White Translucent
Sculpey Color Tints are a fantastic way to add custom hues to your polymer clay projects, especially when working with Premo White, Translucent, and White Translucent clays. Here's how to achieve the best results:
Mixing Tints into Premo White Clay: Start by adding a drop of Sculpey Colour Tint to your Premo White clay. Knead the clay thoroughly to blend the tint evenly. If you want a deeper colour, continue adding drops one at a time, kneading thoroughly after each addition, until you reach the desired depth and saturation. Using Premo White clay as a base helps the colours appear bright and vivid, making it ideal for achieving strong, saturated hues.
Enhancing Premo Translucent Clay: For a subtler, more ethereal effect, use Sculpey Color Tints with Premo Translucent clay. Add a single drop and knead well to blend. Because translucent clay has a slightly different base than white clay, the colours will appear more diffused and softer. Continue adding drops gradually to achieve the level of colour intensity you prefer. The translucency allows light to pass through the clay, creating unique effects and depth in your creations.
Customising Premo White Translucent Clay: Premo White Translucent clay combines the brightness of white clay with the subtle effects of translucent clay. Begin by adding one drop of Sculpey Color Tint and knead to mix thoroughly. The white translucent base can create pastel shades and allows for more gradual transitions between colours. Add more drops as needed to achieve your desired colour depth. This combination is perfect for creating soft, pastel tones and layered effects.
Surface Application Technique: If you prefer, you can also apply the tint directly to the surface of the clay. Let it dry completely before kneading it in. This method can help control the amount of tint being absorbed and ensures an even distribution during mixing. It can be particularly useful when aiming for very subtle shades or when working with larger amounts of clay.
Using Tints with Different Clay Colours: While Sculpey Color Tints can be used with any colour of clay, starting with a neutral colour like white, translucent, or white translucent makes it easier to achieve bright colours and pastels. Neutral bases do not alter the tint's hue, allowing for clearer and more vibrant results.
For a visual reference, we have provided three images above showcasing a range of achievable colour saturations with Premo White, Translucent, and White Translucent clays. These images demonstrate how versatile and impactful the Sculpey Color Tints can be when used with these different clay bases.
By following these guidelines, you can explore a wide array of custom colours and effects, enhancing your polymer clay projects with stunning results.

Using Sculpey Color Tints with Liquid Sculpey Clays in Translucent, White, and Clear
Sculpey Color Tints are perfect for adding custom hues to your Liquid Sculpey clay projects, especially when working with Translucent, White, and Clear Liquid Sculpey clays. Here’s how to achieve the best results:
Mixing Tints into Liquid Sculpey Translucent Clay: Start by adding a drop of Sculpey Color Tint to your Liquid Sculpey Translucent clay. Stir the mixture thoroughly to ensure the tint is evenly dispersed. If you want a more intense colour, continue adding drops one at a time, stirring well after each addition, until you reach your desired depth and saturation. Translucent clay provides a unique look, as the colours will appear softer and allow light to pass through, creating a luminous effect.
Enhancing Liquid Sculpey White Clay: For bright and vivid colours, use Sculpey Color Tints with Liquid Sculpey White clay. Begin by adding a single drop of tint and stirring thoroughly. The white base helps the colours pop, making it ideal for achieving vibrant and saturated hues. Continue adding drops gradually, ensuring each drop is well-mixed before adding more, to achieve your desired colour intensity.
Customising Liquid Sculpey Clear Clay: Liquid Sculpey Clear clay allows for a striking clarity in your coloured creations. Add one drop of Sculpey Color Tint and stir thoroughly to mix. The clear base will showcase the true colour of the tint, allowing for bright and transparent effects. Gradually add more drops to deepen the colour, mixing well after each addition. This is perfect for creating stained-glass effects or layering colours for a more complex look.
Surface Application Technique: Alternatively, you can apply the tint directly to the surface of the Liquid Sculpey clay. Let it dry completely before stirring it in. This method helps control the amount of tint being absorbed and ensures even distribution during mixing. It is especially useful for achieving very subtle shades or working with larger volumes of Liquid Sculpey.
